Honeycomb: The World Beyond Sota7 Animal Tier List
Who to scan, who to walk around, and who waits in The Pass.
Animals in Honeycomb: The World Beyond are neighbors, research subjects, and occasionally a wall. They are not a loot table. Frozen Way’s rule from GDC 2025 is strict: you only cross animals of the same species. This list ranks named fauna by how you should treat them on a research trip — approach, detour, or save for The Pass. Pair it with survival (tranquilizer, immunity), biomes, and bioengineering. Plants have their own page: plant tiers.
S — Late research, high cost
Azurite Lonebid. Survey log #4, The Pass. Large caniform, muscular, clawed forelimbs, deep blue coat with pale irregular spots, cooler reaches of the pocket. Official prose says Pass fauna is scarce, contested, and tied to advanced systems and hybrids you cannot finish on the coast. Rank: S for research value, D for “walk up and pet.” Bring pumps, a tranquilizer, and a reason. The demo is the wrong appointment.
Unnamed Pass animals inherit the same warning. If the letter says every encounter carries weight, believe it.
A — Friendly scans and same-species projects
Lucuma Camilla. Valley survey (log #2) and a Snail “Friendly or Hostile” short. Framed as friendly. This is your first animal lab partner if the species allows samples. Scan, keep distance until the entry agrees, then think about a same-species pair. A-rank because it teaches the non-violence loop without a hospital trip.
Any Valley animal the database marks as tolerant. Same job as Camilla. Promote them in your notes when a same-species experiment actually completes. This page will not invent a second Latin name to look busy.
B — Neutral wildlife and landmarks
Shaggy unicorn-like creature from older previews (Rock Paper Shotgun). Harmless until you cross its turf. That is a B: useful to know, easy to turn into a D if you build a base on its lawn. Scan, detour, do not homestead the nest.
Aquatic and cave silhouettes from GDC comments belong in B until named. Bones in old caves are research flavor; the living thing chewing the bones might not be.
C — Identify, do not engage
Unknown medium wildlife in The Headlands (mixed danger). Constructed remnants and stone formations will funnel patrols. Scan from a ledge. If the entry is incomplete, leave. Headlands is where getting started stops being enough and survival starts.
Tiny aquatic animals mentioned on the official site are C until they have a sample action. Pretty is not a rank.
D — Hostiles and ego traps
Scorchweaver. Valley log and the hostile half of the publisher short. It lives in the low-risk zone, which is the lesson: low risk is not zero. Scan, walk around, tranquilize only if the path is mandatory. Do not “practice combat.” Honeycomb did not ship a practice combat.
Anything that charges a grow pod, a drone, or Hennessy’s backpack of Pass fruit is D until proven otherwise. The advertised tranquilizer is the tool. Killing is not the progression hook. If a future patch adds a defense turret, this rank can move. Until then, D means “your time is better spent grafting.”
Field etiquette
- Scan before you step into personal space.
- Read temperament. Friendly, territorial, hostile are different keys.
- Never start a same-species project with a D-rank just because it looks rare.
- Store samples in the lab, not in a pocket that death can drop.
- If you cannot name it, it is not a pet.
The tier list hub explains the letters. The news log is where a new creature should appear before it appears here. When September 8 lets you live with these animals for more than an hour, expect ranks to shift toward whichever species actually feeds a hybrid. Until the client exists as a full build, this page stays conservative on purpose. For the plants they eat, or that you eat, open the plant tier list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I cross Lucuma Camilla with a Pass caniform?
No. Frozen Way limited animal crosses to the same species. See bioengineering.
Is Scorchweaver a Valley-only threat?
It is named in the Valley survey. Low risk still includes hostiles. Pack the habits from survival.
Should I hunt Azurite Lonebid early?
Where is the rest of the wildlife?
Unnamed until official posts. Scan them anyway. New names go through the news log into this list.
